Compete in the AMCA

We are a member of the American Moot Court Association (AMCA) and compete in their annual oral advocacy and brief writing tournaments. Each year, the AMCA releases a fictional case including two constitutional issues. Moot court can be considered a simulation of the Supreme Court. We study Supreme Court precedent to craft arguments for both constitutional issues and present those arguments to a panel of judges during competition.

Student-Run Scrimmages

In addition to competing and hosting official tournaments with AMCA and NAMC, the Georgetown Undergraduate Moot Court Team regularly organizes scrimmages throughout the competitive season and into the spring. These scrimmages give our members and teams from other universities valuable opportunities to sharpen their oral advocacy, refine legal arguments, and stay engaged with constitutional law year-round. Whether preparing for upcoming tournaments or maintaining skills during the off-season, our scrimmages help ensure that our team remains confident, prepared, and competitive.

Beyond the Court Room

Our team experience goes far beyond practices and competitions. We regularly organize extracurricular activities that deepen our understanding of the law and strengthen our community. One of our favorite traditions is taking team trips to the U.S. Supreme Court to observe live oral arguments while the Court is in session—an inspiring opportunity to see constitutional advocacy at the highest level. These experiences enhance our legal knowledge while bringing our team closer together through shared learning and exploration in Washington, D.C.
