Executive Board

Summer Niederman

Co-President

Hi! My name is Summer Niederman, and I am in the College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in Government with minors in Theology and Religious Studies and Spanish. I am from Highland Beach, Florida so you’ll always find me bundled in the winter. I am so excited to be serving as Co-President to the Moot Court Team! Moot has been one of the highlights of my time at Georgetown. It has allowed me to grow both in terms of public speaking and in the craft of constructing compelling arguments. Thinking on my feet during questioning is a skill that can be applied to many areas of life, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have learned it through Moot. When I’m not reading cases or mooting, you can find me walking around Georgetown, hanging out with friends, or watching a good show.

Ashland Ross

Co-President

Hey y’all! My name is Ashland Ross, and I am a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences studying Public Policy with a minor in Environment and Sustainability. I am from Satsuma, Alabama (like the fruit) and yes, that is why I have a little accent. I joined Moot Court freshman year, having no clue what I was doing and stumbled into an amazing community and opportunity here at Georgetown. GU Moot Court is a place full of silly tournament vlogs, constitutional nerds, and lots of dad jokes. My fellow Mooters make me laugh and question myself regularly. Through Moot Court, I have grown not only my public speaking skills, but a love for constitutional law and advocacy. Outside of my duty as a moot lawyer, I am always reading, watching movies, and going on walks with my friends.

Akshaya Karanam

Treasurer

Hi! My name is Akshaya Karanam and I’m a sophomore in the School of Foreign Service majoring in International Economics with a minor in Spanish. I love being a part of GUMCT because the people are some of the kindest & smartest I have ever met and I’m so grateful to be in an environment with challenging work but also really fun experiences! As someone who didn’t have a background in legal clubs at all, I’ve loved getting to learn about the field and practice advocacy. Apart from moot, I love going museuming, getting involved with dance groups on campus, and hunting for the best bagel in DC (#JerseyProud).

Jenna Tse

Communications Chair

Hi! My name is Jenna Tse, and I’m a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in Government with minors in Bioethics and Art. I’m from Long Island, New York. I’ve always loved to talk and argue, and Moot Court is the perfect way to put those interests to use! Since joining the team, I’ve had the opportunity to both learn about our court system, and work with a fantastic team of hardworking and inspiring mooters. When I’m not mooting, you can find me drawing in an art studio, taking walks around the Georgetown neighborhood, or late night binge-watching any law show.

Ellie Ta

Tournament Director

Hi! I’m Ellie, a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in Public Policy and minoring in Economics. I’m from Cerritos, California (the suburbs of LA County), and am constantly missing a good In-n-Out Burger while in DC.  Nothing tickles my law-loving brain quite like Moot Court! This is a space that sharpens our advocacy, critical thinking, and teamwork all at once. I love being a part of this team—I’m so grateful to work with, learn from, and befriend such lovely mooters! Most of the time you’ll find me yapping with other mooties, editing the next moot vlog (belated retreat vlog…has been in the works…), or following my GCal schedule a little too religiously. If not, I’m probably making another matcha, crafting a new keycap for my keyboard, uploading pics from my digicam, or laughing way too hard at my own cheesy jokes.

Joe Kim

Events Chair

My name is Joe and I’m from Ellicott City, Maryland. I’m planning to major in Government and minor in Film and Media Studies. I love Moot Court because answering unprompted questions eloquently is very fun and I have a passion for constitutional law.

Captains

Ama Mensah-Boone

Hi, my name is Ama! I’m a sophomore from Durham, NC (#DDMF!) majoring in Culture & Politics and minoring in French. Since joining the team my freshman year, I’ve fallen head over heels for the passion and community in this club. Debating the intricacies of constitutional law has been a fun way to learn more about how the upper levels judiciary branch functions and how it impacts our daily lives! When I’m not busy pleasing the Court, I spend my time complaining about Detroit Lions football, getting Call Your Mother at every minor inconvenience, and explaining why CULP is a real major.

Sam McVey

Hi! I’m Sam, and I’m a sophomore in the McDonough School of Business (represent!) studying Finance and International Political Economy and Business. I’m from Collegeville, Pennsylvania, which is about 30 minutes from Philadelphia. I have always been interested in the law, and Moot has been an amazing opportunity to learn more about constitutional law while improving my ability to speak extemporaneously and think critically. My favorite thing about GUMCT, though, is working with our excellent community of Mooters—even if that means getting up at 4 AM for competition travel! If I’m not reading case law or making practice slideshows, I’m probably walking to the M Street Chipotle (and mourning the now-vacant Wawa), thinking about the most recent Sixers injury report, or doing work in the back hallway of the Leavey Center.

Vice Captains

Elaine Jiang

Hi! My name is Elaine Jiang and I am a freshman in the School of Foreign Service studying International Political Economy. I am from Belmont, California (30 minutes south of San Francisco). After being a pre-trial attorney for my high school mock trial team, Moot Court has been a great way to learn more about constitutional law and improve my public speaking and critical thinking skills. Above all though, I love the people of GUMCT and being a part of this team has allowed me to connect with an amazing and smart group of people involved in things all over campus. Outside of moot, you can find me planning events for Georgetown Weeks of Welcome, designing spreads for Added to the File magazine, or watching movies with friends.

Jake Zeng

Hey! I’m Jake Zeng and I’m a first-year studying public policy in the College of Arts and Sciences. I’ve been doing moot court since high school and I love looking at different social issues through a more legal lens. Aside from moot, I also do competitive parliamentary debate, listen to tons of music, and watch and play basketball.
